Chile

Cercarbono is recognised as a standard for offsetting obligations under Chile’s carbon tax system. Through the Sistema de Compensaciones de Emisiones regulated by the Ministry of Environment, companies subject to the Green Tax (Impuesto Verde) may use verified carbon credits to partially comply with their tax liabilities. This framework supports alignment with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement and incentivises verified emissions reductions within and beyond national borders.

Cercarbono is recognised in the subnational carbon compensation programme led by the State of Querétaro. The state’s carbon tax system, established under its Treasury Law, allows companies to utilise certified emission reductions from approved standards, including Cercarbono, to partially fulfill their tax liabilities. This mechanism supports emission reductions and contributes to Mexico’s climate goals under the Paris Agreement.

Colombia’s carbon tax, implemented under Law 1819 of 2016, imposes a fee on the sale and import of fossil fuels. Decree 926 of 2017 introduced a “non-causation” mechanism, permitting entities to offset their tax obligations by acquiring certified emission reduction credits from approved standards, including Cercarbono. This framework incentivises verified emissions reductions and aligns with Colombia’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
